As It Was Told to Me

My first storytelling CD is a great work of collaborative art, starting with the stories, many of which were told to me by the tradition bearers of the Outer Hebrides in Scotland between 1996-1999 while working with The Hebridean Folklore Project. The initial recordings were done in the summer of 2005, with L.A.’s sublimely talented Derek McCarty in Fairfield, Iowa.

In 2009 master uillean piper and recording guru, Tim Britton of Fairfield added his creative mark and attention with the tin whistle tracks and final mixing. Then Libby Smith of Eugene, OR brought her graphics skills to the project. The photos on the CD are of ; Donald MacRury (front cover), Mary MacLain and Donald MacDonald (back), tradition bearers from South & North Uist. So grateful for all involved! This collection is appropriate for ages 12 to 92+.

The Great Turning

Once upon a time, when words were like magic us two-legged had a much deeper relationship with the imaginal realm, with ourselves, each other, our ancestors and this planet - our home.

Now is the time of The Great Turning and this CD is a step towards re-storying the narrative of this time. A turning towards that way of being and seeing, yet woven and lived through the lens of of 21st century selves. Now is the time to listen, to re-connect, re-member and to respond.

The Great Turning is a movement and way of life named and set to fire by Joanna Macy in her "Work That Reconnects." It is about the great shift that is happening now within and all around us and our conscious taking part in the healing of the planet and the all of us!

These stories are small threads in the great tapestry weaving, turning and through action, becoming. With deep awe and gratitude for the stories that shared their shine and shade with me, and now you. To those who stand behind me - my ancestors and story bearers.
